What does Botox do?

Botox is an FDA-approved treatment that temporarily reduces lines and wrinkles in three main areas of your face:

• Between your brows
• On your forehead
• Crow’s feet around your eyes

Generally, Botox is useful in specific areas where your lines and wrinkles develop due to repetitive muscle movements. Botox affects the muscles that control facial expressions by paralyzing them. Typically, the effects of Botox can last up to four months.

Some types of wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines), come from volume loss as you age. These wrinkles won’t respond to Botox, but they’re easily corrected with dermal fillers. 

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectables that replace the volume you’ve lost over time. They’re also popular for facial enhancements like lip plumping. Sanger Avenue Aesthetics offers a range of dermal fillers, including:

Restylane

Restylane fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that you also make naturally. But, you lose natural hyaluronic acid steadily over the years, and your face is where it shows the most. 

Restylane formulas include Restylane Silk for lips, Restylane Lyft™ for the midface area, Restylane Refyne™ and Defyne™ for nasolabial folds, and the original Restylane formula for volume correction face-wide. Restylane lasts anywhere from 6-18 months, depending on the formula and where it’s injected.

Belotero Balance

Belotero Balance® is a hyaluronic acid filler that’s ideal for nasolabial folds. It’s sometimes used in other areas, like fine lines around your mouth, as well. 

This hyaluronic acid formula is unique because the manufacturing process creates an especially smooth gel ideal for a natural correction. It lasts around six months or sometimes longer. 

Radiesse

Rather than hyaluronic acid, Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres. It works by adding immediate volume and promoting new collagen production in your body to yield long-term volume. 

Radiesse is FDA-approved for use in nasolabial folds and the back of your hands to correct the look of skeletal hands. It can last as long as two years.
