How do vaginal health needs change as I age?

Your vaginal health needs change at every stage of your life, especially as you reach your 30s and beyond. It’s important to see your OB/GYN for a women’s wellness exam at least once a year, to maintain good vaginal health as you age. Continue regular Pap and HPV testing as you age, until your physician tells you that the tests aren’t necessary (possibly after age 65).

As you age, hormone changes can alter not only vaginal health but whole-body wellness. These problems are especially common during perimenopause and menopause, but they can also occur earlier.

What are some of the most common vaginal health issues?

Some of the most common vaginal health issues include:

  • Lack of lubrication during intercourse
  • General vaginal dryness
  • Itchiness
  • Burning
  • Urinary leakage (urinary incontinence)
  • Uncomfortable intercourse
  • Loose vagina

All of these problems can come together to make you feel embarrassed, self-conscious, sad, and frustrated. But, it’s important to understand that these problems are all very treatable. Millions of women suffer from vaginal dryness and other symptoms, even though they don’t have to.

Gentle, noninvasive vaginal revitalization treatments with the MonaLisa Touch® laser solve many common vaginal health issues.

What issues can vaginal revitalization help with?

The MonaLisa Touch treats a variety of vaginal health problems, including:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Vaginal laxity
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Vaginal burning
  • Discomfort during intercourse

MonaLisa Touch is an excellent treatment option for many symptoms commonly caused by estrogen changes during menopause, perimenopause, and pregnancy.

How does MonaLisa Touch treatment work?

The MonaLisa Touch laser creates a series of microscopic ablative wounds in your vaginal tissue, without harming surrounding tissue. This removes old tissue to make way for new, healthier tissue and triggers the creation of new collagen and elastin.

There’s no anesthesia needed, and the treatment’s rated as comfortable by most patients. You might feel a mild vibration during the short treatment session.

After treatment, your lubrication, tightness, and sensation tend to improve. This treatment also helps reduce or eliminate urinary incontinence because it tightens your vaginal canal. More than 90% of women who’ve had MonaLisa Touch treatment are happy with the results.

How many MonaLisa Touch treatments do I need?

You’ll likely enjoy symptom relief after only one treatment, but results get better with additional treatments. A series of three treatments, six weeks apart, is ideal for vaginal revitalization. Each treatment takes only around 5 minutes. To fully appreciate the benefits of your vaginal revitalization procedure, you should schedule annual maintenance treatments.
